behind closed curtains

You all have seen my closet before.  Most pictures have been from the outside.  There were a few way back when I first got my Elfa organizational system that you saw the inside.
Behind those curtains it's gotten to be quite a mess recently.  I haven't gone through my clothes and really gotten rid of those things that I don't wear until now.    So I'm going to show you the mess.  You may want to turn away if that sort of thing bothers you.
Another before shot.  The only well folded shelf is the one with my scrubs on it.  I have been having trouble keeping my cardigans folded recently.  The cardigan is quite a tricky article of clothing.
The entire goal of this project was to get rid of anything that takes up room in my closet but doesn't get worn.  I need to have less items.  I can't stand the fact that I have all of these clothes, some of which I found from back when I was in high school (!), that I don't wear.  I played by the rule "if you haven't worn it in the past year, it's time to go."  There were many things that I found myself attempting to argue about and keep, but I must say I was quite strict and stuck to my rules.   I went shelf by shelf, taking everything out and only putting things back in the closet that I actually wear.  Then I went through each of the hanging racks:  shirts, pants, skirts, and dresses.  It took some time, but was quite liberating and I listened to some of my favorite music while doing so.  I also go to try on some funky outfits in the process.

Here's the pile of things to go to Goodwill/Consignment store.
The after-shot of my closet.  Check out the neatly folded shelves!  Oh how happy this makes me.
Just to show you how much I actually got rid of, I pushed all of the shirts and pants to the side. There's a ton of empty bar space now!  You can also see many of the empty hangers that used to hold clothes. Quite an improvement

I must say out of all of the sections, the dress section is the only one that didn't need much thinning out.  I absolutely love dresses and mostly all of them stayed.  Here's my dress section (so glad the container store helped me make this hanging clothes rod big enough!)
They were already organized by color, so I just took out 4-5 dresses that I don't wear.

So here's my closet after!  I'm so happy with it.
(you might not even be able to tell the difference...)

Unfortunately next up I need to go through my dresser and the shoe boxes under my bed.
I will get to that soon, hopefully but I just couldn't do it all yesterday.
The Tshirt drawer is going to be quite a feat:  so many memories!
