a reason to hate virginia

Well, it's that time of year again.  Virginia has sent me my annual car tax.  I am lucky because I drive a semi-environment friendly vehicle so my tax is a little less than, say, a mustang GT.  The tax this year is somewhere between $4-500.  As your car value depreciates the tax goes down.

But let me tell you a little something about my car.  I love it.  I have a Jetta TDI which for those of you who don't know is a clean diesel.  The diesel is not the same smell and sound of those clunkers we think of, but a newer technology and a cleaner fuel.  I get pretty amazing gas mileage.  30-35mpg in the city and 35-45mpg on the highway.  On a recent trip to NYC to visit the girls, it took one tank of gas (about 13gallons) for the round trip driving.  I ended up with about 42-43mpg at the end of the trip.  Not so shabby.

The only problem I have with my car is the color.  There were many options I wouldn't give up so much so that the color was a bit by default.  I needed the diesel engine, standard transmission, ipod/iphone adapter, sunroof, and light colored interior.  With all of that, I ended up with a white car.  I would have preferred a different color, but I wasn't about to drive around an automatic transmission or not be able to listen to my iphone.  Such is life.

Because we have a VW Dealer in the family, my extended family has a number of white jettas.....
